Course Objectives This course covers the fundamentals of becoming a safe and responsible motorcycle rider. It helps you learn the physical and mental skills required for operating a motorcycle in everyday riding situations. It also provides a wealth of practical advice on basic motorcycle safety checks, the types and benefits of motorcycle-specific riding apparel, and time-proven techniques for becoming a safe, more confident rider. Course Description The Basic Rider includes about 5 hours of classroom instruction and 10 hours of riding instruction. The classroom portion is typically covered in two separate sessions. Classroom activities are based on adult learning methods and include a number of training aides that help students fully absorb the material. The riding portion is also divided into two sessions - it includes 17 exercises conducted on our motorcycles, in a safe, controlled environment. Each exercise focuses on a particular skill and builds on your success in earlier ones. Every exercise starts with a brief overview of the objective, a description of the activity, and a riding demonstration. Rider Coaches provide friendly, learner-centric critiques during and after the actual exercise. The course concludes with a multiple-choice knowledge test and a riding skills evaluation.
Requirements Prior riding experience is not required! We do, however, expect you to have a valid driver's license or learner's permit, to be at least 16 years old, and to dress appropriately for the riding portion of the course (see FAQs or Requirements for details). |
